ScotRail worker says day trippers are coming to Glasgow to see empty streets

A ScotRail worker has taken a video of an empty Glasgow Central Station this weekend, but said there are still people coming into the city centre amid the coronavirus lockdown.

Derek Monaghan's video showed how quiet the busy station had become following the new measures to prevent the spread of the virus.

Taken on Saturday (April 4), Derek said that despite how quiet the train, there have been people coming into Glasgow in order to take pictures of the empty streets during lockdown.

He said: "One of the things that I'm happy about that it is like this - people are getting the message stay at home, save lives, save your own.

"We're still getting a few people coming through. Some people are ignorant. They think they're going to come out their house, jump on a train, come through to Glasgow Central, let's have a wee kick about when nobody else is about.

"We're still getting kids coming through and it's absolutely horrendous.

"It's astonishing that we're getting people coming on a train, coming through to Glasgow, kicking about Glasgow city centre taking photographs of what it's actually like.

"You don't realise that you're actually endangering your own life and other people's lives. NHS workers are on the front line putting their lives more at risk.

"Stay in the house, let's keep this going. Let's fight this, let's beat this."
