Scotrail TRNSMT timetable could leave thousands of music fans stranded in Glasgow

Rail chaos could see thousands stranded in Glasgow this weekend.

The restricted timetable in operation means thousands of young TRNSMT fans might struggle to find a way out of the city at night during the three-day festival.

One Glasgow MSP has called on the Scottish Government - who took over Scotrail earlier this year - to sort out the long-running dispute with drivers over pay, the Daily Record reports.

Tens of thousands of fans will descend on Glasgow Green on Friday, Saturday and Sunday to enjoy Scotland's biggest music festival.

But the reduced timetable means there will be no services from the three stations closest to the site - High Street, Argyle Street and Bridgeton - beyond 10.30pm on Friday and Saturday.

And on the final night there are no services scheduled after 11pm, around the time the last headline act usually finishes their performance.

Pam Duncan-Glancy, a Scottish Labour MSP for Glasgow, said: "It's high time the First Minister turned her attention to the issues in her local area.

"Scotland's young people need to know they can get home safely at night.

"The SNP run our rail network. They know that events like TRNSMT are crucial to our economy. They must get back around the negotiating table and sort this out."

And Lib Dems transport spokeswoman pointed out: "Scotland needs more trains. There are going to be thousands of Scots young and old travelling to these events. It's completely ridiculous that they will not be able to get home by public transport.

"Since ministers took over ScotRail in April we have seen nothing but disruption. The Transport Minister seems to have been woefully unprepared for the task of running our railways.

"Unless reliable and regular services are restored soon we will see more nights out ruined and more Scots deciding that private cars are the only way to go."
