ScotRail travel warning for Scotland fans before Euro 2024 qualifier at Hampden

ScotRail has issued a travel warning to Scotland fans ahead of the Euro 2024 qualifier at Hampden Park. The clash between the national team and Georgia will take place at the Glasgow stadium on Tuesday, June 20 at 7.45pm.

The rail operator has put on additional services for fans travelling between Glasgow Central and Mount Florida, but says those travelling by train should plan their journey in advance. Supporters have been warned to expect services to be busy and have been told to allow additional time for travelling.

Regular customers are also warned the Glasgow Central to Mount Florida service will be much busier than normal prior to the game with no access the latter station from Battlefield Road.

Extra staff will be on hand to help at both stations with queuing systems in place at Glasgow Central before the game, and at Mount Florida station after the final whistle.

Fans can purchase their return tickets in advance and reduce the need to queue on the day. Those attending the game have also been asked to return to Mount Florida as quickly as possible after the final whistle and join queues on Bolton Drive.

The train operator also issued a reminder that carrying and consuming alcohol is prohibited on ScotRail trains and in ScotRail stations.

Phil Campbell, ScotRail head of customer operations, said: “We’re looking forward to helping football fans travel by train to cheer on their team when the Scotland men’s national team host Georgia at Hampden on Tuesday night. To help the event run smoothly, we’re adding extra carriages to key trains as well as more trains to and from the national stadium.

“Our advice to supporters is to leave extra time for travel as trains are likely to be busier than normal. Buying tickets in advance through our mTickets system will reduce your queuing time. Regular commuters who travel home from Glasgow on the line via Mount Florida should be aware that services will be much busier than normal with fans heading to the match.”

It comes as the national team hosts its first Saltire Square fan zone event in the carpark opposite Toryglen. Fans are invited to enjoy live music, special guests with food and drink options available.
