ScotRail strike will see Edinburgh train services cancelled from this weekend

Edinburgh ScotRail services will be severely disrupted from this Sunday due to strike action.

Conductors will be taking part in industrial action for the next seven Sundays, starting on March 28 this weekend.

As a result a host of journeys in and out of Edinburgh on those days have been scrapped. Trains won't be running on the following eight routes:

  • Edinburgh - Inverness/Aberdeen
  • Edinburgh - Inverkeithing/ Glenrothes/ Kirkcaldy/ Perth/ Dundee
  • Edinburgh - Stirling/ Dunblane
  • Edinburgh - Tweedbank
  • Edinburgh - North Berwick
  • Edinburgh - Glasgow Central via Shotts
  • Glasgow - Edinburgh via Falkirk High
  • Aberdeen - Glasgow/ Edinburgh

A host of other Glasgow, Aberdeen and Inverness services have also been cancelled.

ScotRail say that key workers will be able to use limited bus services for Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline, Queen Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy and the University Hospital Hairmyres.

The transport operator said: "Strike action by @RMTUnion conductors over calls for overtime payment increases means the cancellation of many services on Scotland's railway this Sunday (March 28).

"All ScotRail services which start or terminate at Inverness, Aberdeen, Perth, Dundee, Stirling and Glasgow Queen Street High Level will be cancelled, with many services from Edinburgh Waverley and Glasgow Central High Level cancelled too.

"Train services that run via Glasgow Central Low Level and Glasgow Queen Street Low Level will operate as planned."

They add: "Services will return to normal on Monday (March 29).

"We know the impact this will have on key workers who can't work from home as they battle the pandemic, so we'll operate replacement bus services serving University Hospital Hairmyres, Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline and Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy.

"If your journey is going to be affected by the RMT's strike action on Sunday, you can travel either the day before or the day after the strike action. Alternatively, a refund is available."
