ScotRail snap back at customer for 'nonsense' comment on LGBTQ+ pride train

Scotrail have snapped back at a customer for commenting ‘nonsense’ after the rail operator unveiled their new LGBTQ+ pride train.

The Scots' train company recently revealed their new ‘Pride of ScotRail train’ which has been decorated with an eye-catching ‘Progress flag’ to celebrate Pride month.

While most people were impressed by the colourful train that will operate across Scotland’s busiest routes - including Edinburgh - one person had to be called out by ScotRail for their response.

The person frustrated the rail operator when they commented: “I take it you’ll also be painting one in ‘straight’ colours? Or will we be discriminated against?”

ScotRail responded: “Straight people aren't punched in the face for holding hands with their life partner, nor are they executed in other countries simply for being straight.

“Please educate yourself on the matter before commenting such nonsense - Ste.”

The response went viral online with one person suggesting that ScotRail worker ‘Ste’ should be bought a drink.

ScotRail responded: “Don't worry I'll 100% be buying Ste a drink or 5 next time we are out for this! ^Megan.”

Commenting on their new train for pride month Lesley Kane, ScotRail Commercial Director, said:

“Scotland’s Railway is for everyone and, this Pride Month, we wanted to do something really special to demonstrate our support for Scotland’s LGBTQ+ community.

“That’s why we are unveiling our “Pride of ScotRail” train, created by our own staff LGBTQ+ and allies network and designed by one of our talented team.

“It’s a visual commitment to our support and a reminder that we won’t tolerate bigotry or discrimination.

“Regardless of background or your identity, you should feel welcomed and safe when travelling.

“And it goes way beyond the month of June. This design will stay on the train for the next eight years, until it eventually requires repainting.”
