ScotRail shut down train services early tonight as heavy rain to batter Scotland

Scotrail have been forced to end  train services early tonight as Scotland is set to be battered by stormy weather.

The Met office issued an amber weather warning, alongside 12 flooding alerts across the country as heavy rain and wind is expected to hit tonight.

The rail operator said a number of services will be reduced this afternoon, with trains ending services at 7pm tonight.

Scotrail said: "With an Amber weather warning from Met Office in place for the east and north of Scotland later today, we’ll reduce the frequency of services running in these areas from late afternoon, with a controlled shut down of the network around 19:00 tonight.

"Our team in Scotland’s Railway Integrated Control room have taken the decision that a 40mph blanket speed restriction will be put imposed across the affected areas from 16:00 this afternoon."
