Trains have been halted in parts of Ayrshire tonight after a track fault was discovered south of Maybole.
ScotRail has confirmed the suspected defect was uncovered between the town and Girvan.
As a result, all services between Maybole and Girvan have been stopped.
The rail operator said the decision had been taken for "safety reasons".
The 9.08pm Kilmarnock to Girvan service is terminating at Ayr, with the 10.03pm Girvan to Ayr service cancelled.
ScotRail said trains were expected to run as normal on Saturday after the problem had been resolved late on Friday night.
