ScotRail makes announcement ahead of TRNSMT weekend

ScotRail is putting on extra services (Image: Archives)

ScotRail is adding extra late-night services to help music fans get home safely.

The operator is encouraging festival-goers to take the train to and from TRNSMT in Glasgow this weekend, with additional carriages and special services planned to meet demand.

TRNSMT returns to Glasgow Green from Friday, June 19 to Sunday, June 21, and ScotRail will be running more trains in and out of the city during the event.

Phil Campbell, customer operations director at ScotRail, said: "TRNSMT is one of Scotland’s biggest music events, and we’re looking forward to playing our part in helping music fans get to and from Glasgow Green as smoothly as possible.

"We’re adding extra carriages to trains throughout the weekend and operating additional late-night services on key routes to support customers travelling home after the music ends each night.

"On Friday night, Scotland’s World Cup match against Morocco will also be shown at the festival after the headline act.

"It’s important that customers know that extra trains are in place after the music finishes.

"Anyone staying to watch the football, should check the last train times and make alternative arrangements where necessary."

Attendees are advised to plan ahead, leave extra time for their journey, and purchase tickets in advance through the ScotRail app, website, or at self-service machines.

A range of stations are within a 20-minute walk of Glasgow Green, including Bridgeton, High Street, Glasgow Central, Glasgow Queen Street, and Argyle Street.

Late-night train services will include routes from Glasgow Queen Street High Level to Edinburgh Waverley via Falkirk High, and from Glasgow Central to both East Kilbride and Ayr (Saturday and Sunday only).

Other services include Argyle Street to Motherwell, and Bridgeton to Garscadden.

Additional changes include later departures from Glasgow Queen Street to Perth and extensions on some Helensburgh services towards Bathgate and Edinburgh.

On Friday night, the festival will screen Scotland’s World Cup match against Morocco at 11pm, following the music programme.

ScotRail has emphasised that no trains will run after the football match finishes, and fans planning to stay for the full game will need to arrange alternative transport home.
