Scotrail: major delays for rail users due to damage to overhead wires on at Charing Cross station

Rail users are facing major delays this morning due to a fault at a Glasgow train station.

Damage to the overhead wires at Charing Cross occurred last night, meaning no trains can run through the station.

A number of trains have been cancelled or rerouted due to the incident.

These include services to Edinburgh, Airdrie, Balloch and Springburn and a number of replacement buses have been introduced.

Repairs took place by Network Rail staff throughout the night, but Scotrail has said that trains will not move through the station until staff are back in place.

A statement from Scotrail reads: "We had damage to the overhead lines in the Charing Cross area. Our staff have worked throughout the night and have now completed repairs. However until we have our staff and trains back in place the below will apply."
