ScotRail launches new Edinburgh to Linlithgow service on damaged Glasgow express line

Scotrail has announced the launch of a new shuttle service to "keep customers moving between Edinburgh and Glasgow" from tomorrow.

It comes as Scotrail was forced to shut down the Edinburgh to Glasgow express line after it was severely damaged by flooding following a storm on Wednesday, 12 August.

For the first time in weeks, the line will be partially opened to allow a shuttle service that will run back and forth between Edinburgh and Linlithgow, calling at Edinburgh Park, Haymarket, and Edinburgh Waverley.

Customers can still travel between Glasgow and Edinburgh using a separate train line which goes via Airdrie and Bathgate, as well as on services to and from Glasgow Central via Shotts.

Scotrail say they are working "around-the-clock to repair around 300m of track" which is still damaged between Polmont and Glasgow Queen Street.

Customers can still catch a replacement bus service between Falkirk Grahamston and Linlithgow.

David Simpson, ScotRail Operations Director, said: “The unprecedented rainfall near Polmont had a severe impact on Scotland’s Railway, from which we’re still trying to recover.

“Network Rail’s specialist engineers are working as quickly as possible to complete repairs to the track and railway infrastructure near Polmont that was caused by flood damage.

“To keep customers moving until we’re able to get the line reopened and services back to normal, we’ll be running a rail shuttle service between Linlithgow and Edinburgh.”
