ScotRail forced to cancel trains in Ayrshire due to storm force waves crashing on to power lines

Trains in Ayrshire are subject to major disruption this evening as storm force winds play havoc with the network.

High waves are currently covering the overhead lines in the Saltcoats area, causing problems for services from Glasgow Central to Largs and Ardrossan.

A dramatic video has been posted showing footage of the waves crashing on to the power lines, which has led to cancellation of services on the route.

ScotRail bosses confirmed on social media this afternoon that trains are now terminating and starting from Kilwinning.

Ticket acceptance has been requested on buses for services from Kilwinning to Largs and Ardrossan.

Power has been cut on the overhead lines between Stevenston and Ardrossan South Beach due to the ongoing conditions.

ScotRail has pledged to "monitor" the weather closely as the day continues.
