ScotRail Edinburgh to Helensburgh trains suspended after serious wire damage

ScotRail has issued an urgent alert to passengers on Wednesday morning after overhead wire damage was found on a main central line.

On September 29, the travel operator announced that services between Edinburgh and Helensburgh would be cancelled for the time being due to significant wire faults.

With the damage said to be located between Bathgate and Bellgrove, all services running between the two stations have been suspended, with teams currently working on the issue.

Journey times are expected to be extended for those travelling on the route, with passengers advised to allow extra time and to follow ScotRail for any updates.

Speaking just after 6am on Wednesday, ScotRail stated: "Due to damage to the overhead electric wires between Bellgrove and Bathgate the line is closed. Our services between Balloch and Airdrie will be suspended.
