ScotRail driver hailed 'legend' for brilliant coronavirus tannoy announcement by amused passengers

A ScotRail train driver has been hailed a ‘legend’ by amused passengers after making a hilarious Covid-19 tannoy announcement.

Travellers were left in stitches on-board the Airdrie to Partick service when they were reminded to wear a face mask on Wednesday afternoon.

Passenger Chris Murray praised the employee on Twitter and asked the rail giant to send his thanks to the driver after being tickled by the tongue-in-cheek remark.

The tweet soon went viral as social media user also praised the driver (Chris Murray/Twitter)

The 30-year-old wrote: “Just heard a legit ScotRail announcement: ‘We’d like to remind you, you canny shove yer granny aff as bus, but you can prevent her getting coronavirus by wearing a facemask for the duration of your journey.’”

Dozens of social media users shared their praise for the driver for his brilliant Scottish humour.

One wrote: “Fantastic bit of humour is what is going to put a smile on peoples faces at this time and just a simple reminder why we need to follow the rules.”

Another said: “10/10 whoever the guard or driver that done it.”

While a third added: “Now that's some positive enforcement on why to use mask.”

ScotRail later apologised after many social media users joked that the iconic song was now stuck in their heads but added: “It is a tune to be fair.”

And the owner of the mystery voice even revealed himself by responding to Chris’s original tweet.

The man, called Robert, wrote: “Hi Chris. It’s Robert here. The voice of Scotrail. Really appreciate you tweeting about the announcements.

“It’s cheesy but obviously had the desired effect looking at the likes and retweets. P.s available for voice overs, weddings and Bar Mitzvahs.”
