Scotrail cuts short contract with Abellio by three years

Scotrail is looking for a new operator after the Scottish Government announced it will cut short Abellio’s contract.

The Dutch firm’s franchise will be brought to an end three years early, in March 2022.

The move comes after long-running complaints about unreliable services from passengers.

In recent years, rail commuters between Dunblane and Edinburgh have blasted the service.

In March 2018, the Stirling Observer reported how frequent passengers on Scotrail services to and from the capital told of regularly overcrowded services, delays and cancellations on a daily basis.

There were also reports that trains at peak times were so overcrowded that up to a dozen passengers have been forced to stand in toilets to continue their journey.
