ScotRail confirms Glasgow to Ayr trains cancelled until Friday at the earliest after Troon station blaze

No trains from Glasgow Central will service Ayr until Friday at the earliest, ScotRail has confirmed this afternoon.

A statement from the national train firm said services from Scotland's biggest city to Ayr would terminate at Kilwinning.

Replacement bus transport will be provided from tomorrow but officials have said that space will be limited to allow for physical distancing.

A statement from ScotRail reads: "Following the serious fire at Troon station on Saturday, July 17, ScotRail is advising customers will not be able to travel by train from Glasgow Central to Ayr until Friday, July 23 at the earliest.

"Services from Glasgow Central to Ayr will start and terminate at Kilwinning.

"Replacement bus transport will be provided from Tuesday, July 20, however, customers should check their journey on the ScotRail app or ScotRail's social media channels before setting out.

"To allow for physical distancing, space on the replacement buses will be limited.

"Work to make the fire-damaged areas of the Troon station building safe is underway and this will allow for engineers to complete safety checks on the overhead lines, platforms, and the track.

"Glasgow – Largs/Ardrossan services are running normally."
