ScotRail chaos between Glasgow and Edinburgh as trespasser sparks overheard wires shut-off

The main train line between Scotland's two biggest cities has been hit with disruption tonight after a trespasser was spotted on the line.

ScotRail have been forced to turn off the overhead wires between Queen Street Station and Croy - sparking chaos for people travelling between Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Just for 7pm they wrote: "We have had reports of a trespasser in the Eastfield area which is delaying services. Trains running via Croy will be cancelled, delayed or revised as a result of this."

They later updated: "The person is now in the care of emergency services however, the power to the overhead wires has had to be turned off from Glasgow Queen Street to Croy.

"We are working as quickly as possible to get services running again.

"Staff continue to carry out checks on the line meaning power to the overhead wires remains off.

"Services between Glasgow Queen Street - Edinburgh /Alloa and Springburn - Partick will be delayed/cancelled as a result of this."

The public are being advised that they can travel on the slower line between Queen Street Low Level and Edinburgh via Bathgate as an alternative.

ScotRail tickets are also being accepted on First Glasgow buses between Glasgow and Croy/Lenzie.

The disruption comes as the route to and from the capital is particularly busy with people visiting the annual Fringe Festival.

The major line was also closed at the start of the month, when flooding at the Winchburgh tunnel sparked a number of cancellations amid torrential downpours across the country.
