ScotRail ban e-scooters and hoverboards on board all trains

ScotRail has announced a ban on lithium-ion powered micro devices on board all trains.

The new ban comes after a spike in fires caused by the popular devices such as e-scooters, e-skateboards and hoverboards.

When the battery becomes damaged, overcharged, overheated, or designed with a manufacturing defect, it can quickly spread excessive heat resulting in fire, or even explosion.

The temporary ban will come into effect on June 1 and will be reviewed in the following 12 months. Such devices will also not be permitted inside stations as passengers are urged to rethink their modes of transport - if a passenger is seen with a lithium-ion powered device they will be asked to disembark or leave the building.

ScotRail took the Twitter to share the news of the new rule, writing: "We're introducing a temporary ban on the carrying of unregulated lithium-ion powered e-scooters, e-unicycles, e-skateboards and e-hoverboards in all ScotRail managed stations and on all ScotRail services from Thursday, 1 June 2023" - with a few customer's appearing unimpressed.

One commented: "This is a disgrace. I take my hoverboard on the train every day and have had no issues. Shame on you ScotFail."
