ScotRail announce alcohol ban on trains from Edinburgh to Glasgow tomorrow

ScotRail have announced that an alcohol ban will be in place on trains from Edinburgh to Glasgow and Helensburgh via Glasgow tomorrow (Saturday August 24).

The prohibition on drinking on their trains will be in place from 2:30pm for the duration of what ScotRail are expecting will be a busy day for the train operator across the country.

A spokesperson for ScotRail confirmed: "This is something we do regularly when there are events that will increase the number of people travelling on our trains. It’s not a new policy and happens frequently throughout the year.

"That is again the case tomorrow and is the reason we have implemented ban. Edinburgh Festivals events will continue this weekend and there is a Scotland v France international rugby match at Murrayfield".

With the Edinburgh Fringe still in full swing and with the rugby match taking place (which kick off 1:10pm), a high volume of Glaswegians will no doubt be using the train to travel to and from the capital.

The ban also extends to services from the capital to Helensburgh, Bathgate, Airdrie, Fife, Dundee, Aberdeen, Inverness Dunblane and Stirling - applying at all stations and replacement bus services.
