ScotRail advise Glasgow commuters not to travel ‘unless absolutely essential’

ScotRail are advising people not to travel “unless it's absolutely essential” in line with Government advice concerning the coronavirus crisis.

The appeal comes after commuters continued to pack onto trains heading into Glasgow this morning.

David Lister, ScotRail’s sustainability and safety assurance director, said: “This is an unprecedented challenge on Scotland’s railway and the revision of the timetable is very clearly aimed at providing a critical service for the key workers across the country.

“The advice for people not to travel unless absolutely necessary could not be clearer, and we urge people to follow that guidance and help us to deliver this essential service.”

The train operator has moved to a reduced service from today in a bid to help control the outbreak of the coronavirus across Scotland.

ScotRail said the new schedule would be similar to the Sunday services and focus on delivering "an effective public transport service for key workers."

Nicola Sturgeon said she had “some sympathy” for ScotRail as it was clear “too many people are going to work”.
