Scotland welcomes first babies of 2023 as parents celebrate the New Year with special arrivals

Scotland has welcomed the first babies of 2023 as parents from across the country celebrate special arrivals on the first day of the year.

Megan Barrass gave birth to her son just after the bells at 12.11am at the Princess Royal Maternity Hospital in Glasgow, making him the first Glasgow baby of 2023.

Megan and dad Taylor Bowman have yet to name their first child but the beautiful boy arrived weighing 8lb, with mum and baby happy and healthy.

It was a busy morning for the Princess Royal with four babies welcomed into the world in the early hours of Sunday.

South of the Clyde, on the other side of Glasgow, at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, the first birth of 2023 was a girl at 00.41am to mum Rachel, weighing 6lb 9. Baby Lillian was born at 12.41 at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, weighing 8lb. While at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, their first arrival was born at 2.43am.

In Fife, Jennifer and Dean Carr became the parents of the first baby born in the Kingdom for 2023. The family, from Kennoway, welcomed baby Harper Elizabeth Carr at 12.21am this morning at the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy, weighing 7lbs 15oz.

There was also joy at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital as three babies were born in the hospital. Samantha Morrice gave birth to the third of those, baby Cody, at 3.30am and celebrated this morning with partner Sean Innes.
