Scotland weather forecast as more snow and blizzards to hit with -3C temperatures

Scotland was hit with snow and blizzards over the weekend - and more wintry conditions are on the way as temperatures plummet this week.

February could see the last blast of winter weather as forecasters warn the mercury could drop as low as -3C in some parts of the country over the coming days.

There’s also a possibility of snow and “blizzard conditions” with chances of a few inches of snow falling in higher altitudes in Scotland.

The Met Office predicted that Dalwhinnie, the Highlands, would wake up to the -3C temperatures this morning amid frost.

It comes after parts of Scotland saw torrential rain - some of which were wintry as the Met Office issued a yellow warning for snow and ice.

Scotland was also battered by strong winds with the wintry conditions sparking widespread travel disruption.

ScotRail said strong winds, a mixture of heavy rain, sleet, or snow were affecting some routes with speed restrictions in place.

CalMac announced a number of ferry cancellations due to strong winds.

The winds cleared on Sunday evening, with much of the country which means much of the UK will wake up to frost on Monday.

Monday itself will see a cold, bright start, with cloudy skies with patchy rain and drizzle sweeping eastwards.

The day will become windier as it progresses and will see milder temperatures from the west. Moving into Tuesday, the snow could remain in parts of Scotland.

Scotland weather forecast this week

The Met Office predicts moving into Tuesday through to Thursday, rain will heavily affect northwestern areas and spreading further south.

Thursday onwards, the country is likely to see colder conditions with the chance of wintry showers and more wind in the north.

More rain will likely see much of the remaining snow in Scotland melt.

From Friday, Scotland can expect wintry showers, which will become lighter and less frequent as the day goes on.

Into the weekend, gales and heavy rain could make a return for the northwest and west.

Looking ahead towards the middle of the month, the north can expect a mixture of wintry showers and wind, interspersed with rain.

Again, most of the rest of the country will be dominated by a patch of high pressure.

Heading towards mid and late February, temperatures are likely to be close to average, but there is the potential for cold snaps especially in northern and eastern parts.
