Scotland weather: Edinburgh and Lothians set to be drenched as Met Office issue flood warnings

Edinburgh and the Lothians are set to be hit by heavy rainfall tonight after a yellow weather warning for rain was issued in parts of Scotland.

SEPA has also issued a number of flood warnings across the Western central belt with 'heavy rain to start later on Saturday and last into Sunday morning' in the East.

According to the Met Office forecast for the Lothians, "heavy and persistent" rain will spread to the East coast 'after dark' with the downpours sets to continue through the night and early morning.

The yellow weather warning for heavy rain and flooding will mostly affect West Lothian, with Livingston set be drenched from 18:00 onwards tonight according to the Met Office.

Traffic Scotland has warned drivers to take care on the road writing on Twitter, writing: "YELLOW WEATHER WARNING.

"The @metoffice have issued a YELLOW weather warning for RAIN

"Saturday (12th September) 18:00 until Sunday (13th September) 23:59. #DriveSafe."

Luckily the heavy rain is only set to last in Edinburgh and the Lothians until the early hours of Sunday, with the capital set to see sunnier conditions from Monday onwards.
