Scotland vs England Under-19s game abandoned halfway through amid 'positive test' mystery

An Auld Enemy clash between the youth teams of Scotland and England was abandoned around half-time on Thursday afternoon due to a positive coronavirus test result.

The two home nations' Under-19s squads were playing in a friendly match at the Three Lions' St George's Park training base.

With England leading 3-1 at half-time, players were told they could not play the second 45 minutes after a member of backroom staff recorded a positive result.

According to Mike McGrath of the Daily Telegraph, it's not yet known which camp the unknown staff member belonged to.

Rangers starlet Kai Kennedy, Hibs' Josh Doig and Jamie Hamilton of Hamilton Accies all featured for Billy Stark's side in the match.

Hearts' Cammy Logan and Motherwell's Stuart McKinstry were listed as substitutes.

A statement from England's FA read: "England Under-19's match with Scotland at St George's Park this afternoon was abandoned in the first half as a precaution in line with COVID protocol. We are not in a position to comment further at this time."

Meanwhile, Aberdeen's Ross McCrorie has been promoted from the Under-21s side to feature in Steve Clarke's Nations League campaign in his first senior Scotland call-up.
