Scotland vs Czech Republic – LIVE!
After 23 long years, Scotland’s return to major international tournament football ended in a hugely disappointing 2-0 defeat by the Czech Republic on Monday afternoon.
Not since the 1998 World Cup in France have the Scots competed against the best, but Patrik Schick’s stylish brace spoiled the otherwise crackling atmosphere generated by 12,000 expectant fans at Hampden Park in Glasgow.
The Bayer Leverkusen striker’s second effort was an absolute wonder goal from near the halfway line and will surely go on to win goal of the tournament honours.
Defeat leaves Scotland with a mountain to climb already in Group D, though head coach Steve Clarke insists his team will not dwell on the disappointment.
Scotland will have to recover quickly as they face old rivals England at Wembley on Friday night before 2018 World Cup finalists Croatia visit Hampden next Tuesday.
