Scotland v Argentina: Lee Alexander aims to make more history at Women's World Cup

Lee Alexander’s pre-tournament hopes of helping Scotland reach the knockout stages of the Women’s World Cup for the first time hang in the balance this week.

On Friday, the Glasgow City goalkeeper was on the receiving end of another narrow defeat as Japan replicated England’s victory over the Scots with a 2-1 win.

It means Scotland must beat Argentina in their final Group D clash tonight to have a chance of progressing as one of the best third-placed teams.

Argentina have lost just one goal in their matches following a 0-0 draw with Japan in their opening game and a 1-0 defeat to England on Friday.

But Lee said: “We have to feel confident.

“Our expectation was to get out of the group and it still is.

“Argentina seem very physical.

“Their game plan has been spot on for both games. They have sat in and taken the pressure for most of the game and hit teams on the break, so they will be a very difficult side.”
