Scotland to hold minute's silence tomorrow in tribute to key worker coronavirus victims

The Scottish Government is set to join a minute’s silence tomorrow in tribute to those pay tribute to people who have died from the coronavirus pandemic while working.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon confirmed the government will join in a minute’s silence at 11am on Tuesday and invited all Scots to join in.

Sturgeon said the tribute would be "particularly, but not exclusively" for health and care workers.

She added: "The silence will provide an opportunity to pay tribute to those who have died as a result of their work to serve, care for and save others and it will be a further reminder that of all the duties Government bares during a situation like this, the most vital is our obligation to keep care and health workers safe.

"I want to stress again today that I and the Scottish Government are acutely aware of that responsibility and will work each and every day to do everything we can to fulfil that obligation."

Scots nurse Janice Graham died at Inverclyde Royal Hospital on Monday, April 6 after contracting the deadly bug.

The 58-year-old was a health care support worker and district nurse from Inverclyde.

A second Scots nurse, Angela Cunningham, passed away at Borders General Hospital's Intensive Care Unit just days after her 60th birthday.

Respected nurse Angela dedicated over 30 years to working for NHS Borders.

Carer Catherine Sweeney passed away at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley

The 64-year-old was due to retire from West Dunbartonshire Council next year, where she worked as a home carer in the Dumbarton area.

NHS worker Jane Murphy, a clinical support worker, died on April 17 after contracting coronavirus.

The 73-year-old worked at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for almost 30 years.
