Scotland to enjoy scorching 23C temperatures mid-week after hottest day of year

Scotland is set for some warm weather this week as parts of the country could reach 23C.

This week has already seen Scotland's hottest day of the year so far with a 24.7C recorded at Aboyne in Aberdeenshire on Monday, according to the Met Office.

Rising temperatures this week almost reach that record as Aberdeen is set for another scorcher with highs of 23C on Wednesday.

While Scotland will not enjoy a heatwave this week, temperatures will steadily increase until the weekend moving into the 20s in some areas, according to the Met Office.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "Scotland will not reach the heatwave threshold but temperatures will steadily increase through the week."

Parts of Scotland are forecasted to reach 23C during the week - which isn't far off of the hottest day of the year so far.

The Met Office spokesperson added: "Aberdeen may sneak a 23C on Wednesday."

Elsewhere in Scotland there will still be some grey skies and possibly rain mid-week - particularly in the west of the country.

Temperatures will move towards and into the 20s in some areas of Scotland, although they will not meet the heatwave threshold.

There may still be some grey skies across the country. The Met Office. spokesperson said: "It will be a bit of a mixed batch over the week with a fair bit of cloud and the odd shower in the West.

"The finer conditions will be in the east."

Temperatures are expected to cool back down as the weekend comes with temperatures dropping back into the mid and high teens.

It comes after the Met Office said temperatures in the Aberdeenshire village of Aboyne reached 24.3C on Monday topping Scotland’s previous high of the year which was 23.6C recorded at Dunstaffnage on June 5.

Met Office forecaster Greg Dewhurst said “it just shows you that the warmth is still around and it is going to become warmer across the whole of the UK” during the week.
