Scotland to be hit with thunderstorms and rain as temperatures rise

Summer storms are set to unleash on Scotland this week as temperatures top 20°C.

Thundery showers are forecast from tonight across the Girvan area before moving across Scotland mid-week amid muggy and humid conditions.

It will all be worth it though, as the skies are set to clear next weekend for some sunshine.

Heavy and scattered showers are predicted across the south of Scotland tonight.

A warm evening is forecast with sunshine in the west but low cloud in the eastern Central Belt.

This is expected to push further west with fog on high ground.

Light easterly winds are forecast tonight with a low temperature of 12°C.

Downpours and thunderstorms are expected to hit the country on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Showers are expected on Thursday and Friday, while temperatures remain at a high of 24°C.

The remainder of Sunday will see sunny spells and isolated heavy showers.

Early loud cover will be burned off by sunshine and a balmy 24°C.

More sunshine is heading to Scotland next weekend with temperatures again expected reach 20°C.

The Met Office predicted: "Warm sunshine on Monday with a few scattered thundery showers.

"Risk of more widespread thundery downpours on Tuesday and Wednesday."
