Scotland to be hit by thunderstorms TONIGHT after summer scorcher

The saying 'all good things come to an end' is ringing true for us Scots just now.

We've just spent the day enjoying 30C heat across the country but tonight we are in for some thunderstorms.

The Met Office is warning residents there's to be scatted thunderstorms and rain forecast for this evening.

From 3pm until 4am tomorrow morning (Friday) parts of the country will be hit by the storms. Bringing strong winds and rain, after the hottest day of the year.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "While some areas, particularly in the south of the warning area may well avoid the storms, where they do occur they could produce 20-30 mm of rain in less than an hour, along with frequent lightning, hail and gusty winds."

The yellow weather warning is said to affect North and South Lanarkshire, Stirling, Falkirk, Fife, Perth, Dundee, Edinburgh, the borders and Angus.
