“There will be rain for many and we will lose the sunshine as it turns cooler.”

The Met Office forecast predicts a band of cloud and rain outbreaks starting today and moving north.

From  Wednesday to Friday we can expect  "remaining unsettled and mostly cloudy with showers or longer spells of rain." while "temperatures remain slightly cooler than average".

From Friday to May 10, the forecasters say: "the unsettled theme is likely to continue as Atlantic weather systems bring further bands of rain across to many areas, particularly in the south and the west of the UK.

"Towards the end of this period, although confidence is low, there are some signs that more settled conditions may return."
