Scotland to be drenched in heavy rain and floods tomorrow as Met Office issue yellow warning

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain and floods across parts of Scotland tomorrow.

Nearly half of one month's rainfall will batter the country in yet another spell of bad weather.

It comes after Scotland was hit with thunderstorms on Friday following scorching temperatures.

Heavy rain is expected to cause flooding of a 'few homes and businesses' across the west of the country until midnight on Tuesday, August 4.

Some 40-60 mm of rain is expected, with as much as 80-100 mm on higher ground.

Typically, 120mm on average falls in August.

The Met Office warned bus and train services will be affected by floods from 6am on Tuesday, with spray on roads making journey times longer.

A statement from the Met Office read: "A spell of persistent and heavy rain is expected to affect western Scotland during Tuesday.

"Widespread rainfall totals of 40-60 mm are expected with as much as 80-100 mm over some high ground exposed to the strong south-westerly winds.

"Much of this rainfall will fall in around 12 hours during the middle part of the day."

The west of Scotland is to be worst hit by the spell of heavy rain.

The areas to be affected will be Perth and Kinross, Stirling, Highlands, Argyll and Bute and West Dumbartonshire.

It comes after many parts of the country basked in a mini heatwave on Friday afternoon.

A plume of heat swept the country, bringing highs of around 28 degrees celsius.
