Scotland team v Croatia named as Steve Clarke offers Billy Gilmour solution for crunch clash

The eleven players asked to go and create history for Scotland have been named ahead of tonight's crunch clash with Croatia.

A win for Steve Clarke 's men will see them through as one of the four best third-placed teams at their opponents' expense. Anything less and it's home time.

The Scots can still finish second if the Czech Republic beat England and we score enough goals to leapfrog England, but that's unlikely.

Hibs striker Kevin Nisbet is in line for another cameo off the bench if needed, but it looks like Hearts 'keeper Craig Gordon might struggle to get a Euros appearance even if Scotland go through.

Billy Gilmour's enforced absence after returning a positive Covid test is a blow, and Stuart Armstrong takes his place in the starting XI.

But other than that, Clarke has kept faith with the side that ensured progression came down to tonight's Hampden decider.

For Croatia, Borna Barisic misses out on playing in his adopted home city after injury ensured he wasn't fit enough to feature for his country tonight, but the big names such as Luka Modric and Ivan Perisic are in as the Croats look to deny Scotland and progress at their hosts' expense.

Scotland: Marshall, McTominay, Hanley, Tierney, O'Donnell, Robertson, McGregor, McGinn, Armstrong, Adams, Dykes.

Subs: Gordon, McLaughlin, Gallagher, Cooper, Patterson, McKenna, Fleck, Turnbull, Christie, Nisbet, Fraser, Forrest
