Scotland striker Oli McBurnie dodges court after 'rammy' clip went viral

Scotland striker Oli McBurnie has avoided court after a video of a street fight went viral.

It was alleged that the 25-year-old punched a member of the public and stamped on his phone in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire.

In May a clip of the incident surfaced on social media.

McBurnie, who also plays for Sheffield United, was arrested soon after in connection with the alleged assault of a 21-year-old.

Another clip subsequently emerged with the 21-year-old shouting abuse at McBurnie beforehand.

On Monday North Yorkshire Police confirmed that the case was concluded, Yorkshire Live reports.

Officers said they issued a penalty notice and a caution to the men involved.

Police did not disclose which man was handed and penalty notice and which was cautioned.

In their statement today, North Yorkshire Police said: "Following an investigation, a man in his 20s has been cautioned for a public order offence, namely using threatening behaviour.

"A second man, also in his 20s, was issued with a penalty notice for a similar offence.

"Police are no longer appealing for information."

The 21-year-old involved released a statement after the video went viral on Twitter.

He said: “On Saturday 10th May, I became involved in an incident which involved a number of parties, one of which was Oliver McBurnie.

“I am sure we all regret the incident.

"We exchanged opinions at the time and as far as I am concerned the matter is concluded.

"I do not intend to take any further action.

“I wish Oliver all the best going forward. After the year we’ve all had, it’s time to look to the future and not the past.

“I will not be making any further public comment.”

McBurnie, born to Scottish parents in England, was first signed to the Scotland squad in 2018.

He was not selected for the Euros due to injury.

The Daily Record contacted Sheffield United Football Club and North Yorkshire Police for comment.
