Scotland 'stay at home' lockdown lifts as more covid restrictions eased

Scotland's 'stay at home' rule has lifted today as coronavirus restrictions have continued to ease as part of the Scottish Government's route map out of lockdown.

The decision to end the current messaging was confirmed by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon at a covid briefing on Tuesday.

The change means that you can venture out for non-essential reasons, such as visiting a non-essential shop, as long it's within your council area.

However, travel restrictions remain in place, with people now urged to 'stay local', with travelling outside of local authority boundaries still prohibited.

Meanwhile, from Monday (April 5), hairdressers and barbers will be allowed to reopen, as well as garden centres and click and collect services for non-essential retail.

The government advice reads: "People across Scotland can make non-essential journeys in their local authority area from Friday 2 April when a requirement to Stay Local will replace the Stay at Home rule.

"Hairdressers, garden centres, car showrooms and forecourts, homeware stores and non-essential click and collect services will be able to open from Monday 5 April, subject to enhanced safety measures including physical distancing, face coverings and pre-booking where appropriate. More college students will be able to return to on-campus learning and 12-17 year-olds will be able to resume outdoor contact sports from this date."

Further easing of restrictions are then expected to come into effect from April 26, including the hospitality industry beginning to reopen and the end of travel restrictions in mainland Scotland - here's a timeline for Scotland's move out of lockdown.
