Scotland star Oli McBurnie arrested after footage surfaces of alleged street brawl

Scotland star Oli McBurnie has been arrested after footage which appeared to show him in a violent street bust-up surfaced online.

The striker, 24, who plays for Premier League side Sheffield United has been held by officers from North Yorkshire Police after the video was reported.

Police confirmed that the 21-year-old victim sustained facial injuries during the incident, which happened shortly before 8.30pm on Saturday, May 8 on High Street in Knaresborough.

A 25 second clip of the fight shows a man who looks like McBurnie involved in the alleged attack.

McBurnie was born and grew up in Leeds, Yorkshire, and plays for the Scotland team due to his Scottish parents.

He was signed by Sheffield United in 2019 after a spell at Swansea.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: "A 24-year-old man from Knaresborough has been arrested in connection with an incident, which involved another man being assaulted.

"The 21-year-old victim sustained facial injuries during the incident, which happened shortly before 8.30pm on Saturday 8 May on High Street in Knaresborough.

"The 24-year-old arrested man remains in custody at this time.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact police. Dial 101, press 1 and pass information to the force control room, quoting reference number 12210115038."
