Acting head teacher Louise Torrance and pupils were interviewed by hosts Dermot O'Leary and Alison Hammond, with Louise telling the show how the Cambuslang man had a love of chess as a schoolboy.

She said: "When he [Kevin] comes on tonight he is going to get an extra-special cheer from all the boys and girls.

"They are really excited.

"Kevin Nisbet was one of our pupils a long time ago.

"He was a fabulous chess player and he was a great ambassador for the school. We are so looking forward to seeing him.

"I hope he gets a game tonight."

Primary five pupils Kristen and Adam were both interviewed as well, with the youngsters declaring Nisbet as their favourite player and Adam predicting a 2-1 win for Scotland at Wembley.

Here's hoping you are right, Adam!

The big match kicks-off at 8pm tonight and five Lanarkshire players are in the squad, with Wishaw stars David Turnbull and Stephen O'Donnell joining Muirhouse man Kieran Tierney, Blantyre's Declan Gallagher and Nisbet in the squad.
