Scotland squad: Kevin Nisbet's first selection as Steve Clarke calls up five Lanarkshire players

Kevin Nisbet has been handed his first Scotland call-up as Steve Clarke names five Lanarkshire players in his squad for the upcoming 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

Declan Gallagher, Kieran Tierney, Kenny McLean, Nisbet and Stephen O'Donnell have all been called up by the Scotland boss.

Scotland welcome Austria to Hampden on Thursday, March 25 before visiting Israel three days later and hosting the Faroe Islands on Wednesday, March 31.

Although Clarke's side face three important qualifiers to kick-start their qualifying campaign it also provides the last opportunity for players to impress ahead of this summer's Euros.

Motherwell duo Gallagher and O'Donnell are important members of Clarke's squad and both played a starring role in the famous play-off win against Serbia.

Kieran Tierney is enjoying a fantastic season for Arsenal and is developing into the one of the best left-backs in the world.

Kenny McLean is Scotland's penalty kick hero and the Rutherglen-born midfielder has been in excellent form for Norwich City as they sit top of the English Championship.

Nisbet has been in fine form for Hibs and scored in their 2-1 win over Ross County on Saturday.

The big news from today's announcement is the inclusion of Southampton striker Che Adams.

The 24 year-old has played for England at youth player but is eligible for Scotland through the grandparent rule.

Adams has previously turned down previous approaches by Alex McLeish to play for Scotland but the lure of a major tournament proved decisive.
