Scotland squad announcement and the potential Hearts and Hibs involvement

The Scotland squad for next month's Nations League double-header will be announced later.

QPR striker Lyndon Dykes and Rangers goalkeeper Robby McCrorie, currently on-loan at Livingston, are both set to make the cut.

Head coach Steve Clarke has some tough decisions to make for the matches against Israel on September 4 and Czech Republic on September 7.

The fact that the Scottish Championship season is yet to get underway, and Hearts duo Steven Naismith and Craig Gordon haven't played since the COVID-19 shutdown in March is likely to affect their chances.

The Daily Record reports that Naismith is unlikely to be included, however he has spoken to Clarke and made himself available in the event of an emergency.

The reported inclusion of McCrorie means that Gordon may miss out with Rangers keeper Jon McLaughlin and Derby County's David Marshall likely to take the other two spots.

For Hibs, defender Paul McGinn has already spoken about his desire to play for his country, alongside younger brother John, and he's surely in with a shout given his impressive start to the 2020/21 Premiership season.

He said last week: "John is always on saying you can’t be far away now and that sort of thing. I try not to read too much into it since he’s biased.

"I’ll just keep playing well, because I’m at  Hibs  now there is a lot more eyes on it and your chances increase don’t they? It’s just one of those things.

"You probably grew up desperate to play for Scotland. I would be really proud to do that with John.

"First and foremost if I play well then I’m sure Steve Clarke will be watching and If I keep playing I’ll give myself the best chance."
