Scotland set to sizzle this week as scorching sunshine sweeps country

Scotland is set to sizzle this week as soaring temperatures will sweep the country this week.

The Met Office predicts highs of 23 degrees on Thursday with temperatures to remain high over the weekend.

Temperatures will climb each day this week with the last weekend in May seeing the best weather.

Glasgow and the surrounding areas will see the warmest spells.

Scotland's largest city will enjoy highs on 21 degrees on Thursday, 23 degrees on Friday, 22 degrees over the weekend and dipping slightly to a balmy 20 degrees on Monday.

A statement from the Met Office read: "Dry and bright on Thursday and becoming warm.

"Dry with sunny spells Friday and Saturday and becoming very warm inland.

"Cooler across the Isles with a fresh southerly breeze."

While further north, Aberdeen's highest temperature will only stretch to16 degrees on Monday, sun worshippers in Inverness can look forward to highs of 21 degrees across the weekend.

Edinburgh, Perth, Dumfries and Ayr will all see highs of 20 to 21 degrees of sun over the weekend with, mostly uninterrupted sunshine.

It comes as First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced that on Thursday, it will be revealed whether or not Scotland can proceed with phase one of easing lockdown.

Last week we told how hundreds of lockdown rebels flocked to Edinburgh's Portobello Beach to enjoy a previous spell of warm weather.
