Scotland set to appoint new manager in '48 hours' after Derek McInnes rules himself out

Scotland are set to finally make a decision on who will replace Alex McLeish as their new manager in the next '48 hours' - according to reports.

But Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes this afternoon has ruled himself out of contention for the job according to Dons vice-chairman Dave Cormack.

Kilmarnock's Steve Clarke is one of the contenders, while Scotland under-21 coach Scot Gemmill is also believed to be on the SFA's shortlist, with the BBC saying they are keen to appoint their new boss within the next two days.

The new manager will have to hit the ground running with their Euro 2020 qualifiers against both Cyprus and Belgium looming, with just under two weeks left to announce their squad for those games.

Reds boss McInnes was believed to be one of top choice for the job, but Dons vice-chairman Cormack revealed he had dropped out of the race for the role.

McInnes has also knocked back opportunities from Sunderland and Rangers in the past to stay with Aberdeen.

Ryan Christie bites back at Rangers and tells them Glasgow is 'definitely green and white'

He told the BBC: "Derek is very attracted to being Scotland manager at some stage, but not just now, that's a big plus for us as a club.

"Whilst Derek himself aspires to be Scotland manager at some stage, Derek's made the decision that that time is not now - that he wants to focus on club football."

Sunderland manager Jack Ross is also another name that has been linked with the role in recent weeks.
