Scotland's youngest coronavirus victim is man under 25

A man under the age of 25 has become the youngest victim of coronavirus in Scotland.

The man tragically died on October 17 and marks the first Scot age 24 or younger to die from the virus since the start of the pandemic.

It is unknown where in Scotland the man is from or whether he had underlying health conditions.

The figures come from Public Health Scotland and show the victim is the only Scot in the 20-24 age category to have died of Covid-19.

So far, no one under 20 has been killed by the virus.

In the 25-44 category a total of three Scots have died in October, with death rates rising with older age.

221 victims between 45-64 have died while 428 Scots between 65 -74 have lost their lives.

935 Scots died within the 75 – 84 age bracket while 1,083 people in the 85 and older age bracket have died.

The Scottish Government announced today there were 11 new coronavirus deaths overnight in Scotland.

A further 1,433 Scots have also tested positive for the deadly virus as cases continue to rise across the country.

Since the start of the pandemic a total of 55,449 people have tested positive for the deadly virus.

985 patients are currently being treated in hospital while 84 remain in intensive care.
