Three Ayrshire towns are currently among the worst hit for fresh Covid cases in Scotland, new data shows today.
Stevenston Hayocks has the highest infection rate in Ayrshire at the moment with a case rate of 1352.7 in the past seven days.
The North Ayrshire zone is ranked fifth worst in Scotland after 54 cases were detected in the last week.
Public Health Scotland data also shows that Kilwinning Central and North is the second-highest in Ayrshire (sixth in Scotland) with a case rate of 1333.3 which equates to 54 cases in the past week in the North Ayrshire zone.
Girvan Glendoune takes third in Ayrshire and seventh across Scotland with a case rate of 1315.0 after 42 cases were found in the past week in the South Ayrshire zone.
No East Ayrshire zones make the top ten list but the worst affected area is Cumnock South and Craigens, which recorded 51 cases in a week and has a case rate of 1067.6 and ranks 39th nationally.
NHS Ayrshire and Arran has recorded 345 new cases in the past 24 hours and the case rate for the health board is currently the worst in Scotland at 649.2. Ayrshire has recorded 36,898 positive tests since the pandemic began. And 2,389 of those have been in the past seven days.
South Ayrshire has the highest infection rate in the region (674.2) with North Ayrshire on 665.2 and East Ayrshire with 605.3.
Nationally, two more Covid deaths have been recorded in the past 24 hours.
The country also reported 3,833 new cases overnight.
Hospital and ICU patient numbers are not updated over the weekend.
Last week, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said the situation in Scotland remains "challenging".
She added: "Although the level of infection in Scotland remains too high, there are continuing signs that the recent spike in cases is slowing down."
