Scotland's wheelchair curlers recognised with top sports award

Aileen Neilson says Scotland’s wheelchair curling team have been rewarded for a rollercoaster last few years after picking up the Disability Sports Award at the 2019 Sunday Mail sportscotland Scottish Sports Awards last Thursday.

Aileen, from Strathaven, has been with the team for 14 years and skipped them to a silver medal at the World Championships in March, with the team also featuring Motherwell’s Robert McPherson.

“I’m completely delighted that the team has been recognised in this way and I hope it raises the profile of the sport,” said Aileen.

“It’s fabulous to be recognised and it really has been a rollercoaster last few years.

“The World Championships were last in Scotland in 2005 and that inspired me, so hopefully winning silver in Stirling inspires more people to want to take up the sport.”
