Scotland's travel green list update this week as 17 countries could be added

Scotland’s travel list is expected to be updated this week - with a number of countries anticipated to join the green list.

Holidaymakerswill be keeping their eyes on the news and on social mediaas a number of Scots look to book somewhere for the last of the summer sun.

It is expected that the Scottish Governmentwill provide an update on the list during the middle of this week.

Experts anticipate around 17 countries to join the green list - which means that Scots will not be required to self-isolate for 10 days upon their return to Scotland.

Government officials are still advising Scotland to “think carefully” about booking trips abroad while the world continues to battle the pandemic.

The Scottish Government’s website reads: “Travelling abroad also carries a risk of bringing new cases and variants of Covid-19 into Scotland.

“You should think carefully about whether your trip abroad is necessary before booking travel.”

When is the next green list update?

Any update to the travel list is expected to come into force from next Friday (PA)

The Scottish Government reviews international travel restrictions along with the other UKnations every three weeks.

An update was last given on Wednesday, July 14, which saw the likes of Bulgaria and Croatia added to the green list. The Balearic Islands was upgraded to the amber list at this point.

It was the first time that officials updated Scots on travel restrictions on a Wednesday - with previous updates coming on Thursday.

This means that the next update to the traffic light system could come on Wednesday, August 4 or Thursday, August 5.

Changes outlined generally come into effect the following Monday.

Which countries are expected to move?

It has been reported that as many as 17 countries are in contention to go on the green list this week.

The Telegraphreports that Germany, Poland and Canada are among these countries as their Covid situation continues to improve.

Others include Austria, Romania, Bosnia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia and Slovenia.

There are also reports that France could be taken off the so-called ‘amber plus’ list, which means that fully vaccinated Scots will not be required to self-isolate for 10 days on their return to Scotland.

But there are fears that the likes of Spain, Greece and Italy could have their status upgraded amid a rise in case numbers.
