Scotland's top five affordable postcodes compared to expensive streets - check your area

We all know location is the biggest factor when buying a home, but some postcodes are pricier than others.

As the most expensive streets in Scotland were revealed in Zoopla's 'Rich List for 2021', we've taken a look at some of the country's more affordable areas.

The rich list released this week unveiled five of the most exclusive areas, with average house prices easily topping the million-pound mark.

Unsurprisingly, three streets in Edinburgh topped the list for Scotland followed by Perthshire's Auchterarder making up the final two priciest postcodes.

But where in Scotland are the cheapest places to live? Here is a list of the most affordable areas, according to Zoopla data from March 2021.

Kilbirnie comes in first place, with the average house prices of £76,303 (Zoopla)

Scotland’s affordability is linked to two key factors - strong earnings locally and more reasonably priced property - with average house prices in all of these towns below £65,000.

In fact, the top five most affordable towns in the whole of the UK are all clustered around Scotland and the north-west of England.

To calculate which areas are the most affordable, Zoopla analysed house price-to-earnings ratios, based on a two-earner household on the average salary for the local area.
