Scotland's top 16 areas with the worst Covid rates as Omicron rages - check yours

As Scotland expects a "tsunami" of Omicron variant cases according to Nicola Sturgeon's remarks yesterday, 16 areas in Scotland are reporting the highest infection rates.

The most recent data from Public Health Scotland comes as the First Minister said cases of Omicron cases double every two days due to the variant's faster transmissibility.

Latest figures show 16 local authorities have the highest infection rates (over 400 cases per 100,000 people) dating from December 1 to 7.

A map of Scotland's Covid rates reveals many of these areas are concentrated in the central belt.

East Ayrshire, Falkirk and East Dunbartonshire have the highest Covid rates in Scotland.

The lowest rates are in Shetland, Orkney and Dundee.
