Scotland's schools ranked from best to worst by Higher results

A Glasgow secondary has been named as Scotland's best state school - for the fifth year in a row.

The Times has ranked all Scots academies on the percentage of pupils attaining five Highers.

Jordanhill School, in the city's west end, has once again topped the table with 88 per cent of pupils reaching the mark.

Mearns Castle High School in East Renfrewshire took second spot with 75 per cent and Dunblane High School, Stirling came third with 74 per cent.

Boroughmuir High School is the only Edinburgh institution to make the top ten- coming seventh with 72 per cent.

Moffat Academy, in Dumfries and Galloway, is Scotland’s most improved school with 54 per cent attaining five Highers, up from 27 per cent the previous year.

Dundee stays the worst performing area, but performances improved by two percentage points to 25 per cent.

East Dunbartonshire to the north and East Renfrewshire are the top performing areas, with five schools apiece in the top 20.

The figures show that generally more deprived areas have poorer results.

Councillor Paul O’Kane, education convener at East Renfrewshire Council, told the Sun : "Each year our schools deliver outstanding exam results and it is testament to the hard work of all our pupils, staff and parents."
