Scotland’s only freshwater open-air swimming pool in Ayrshire is set to reopen this month

Scotland’s only freshwater open-air swimming pool is set to reopen this month.

The New Cumnock Swimming Pool will welcome back swimmers on Monday, June 14 in a delayed start to Ayrshire’s 2021 outdoor swimming season.

A swim at the heated lido might look different as The Prince’s Foundation, which runs the pool, has implemented new measures to ensure the health and safety of staff and visitors.

Pre-booking is essential with swims capped at one-hour sessions. Payment can only be made via card or contactless at the moment.

Entry and exit times remain strict to allow the team time to carry out thorough cleaning and sanitisation of the facilities.

Masks must be worn in changing and reception areas, with swimmers being allocated a changing cubicle where you can store belongings.

Lane swimming must be completed in a clockwise direction, single file – with two metres apart and no overtaking.

The Tamar Manoukian New Cumnock Swimming Pool was threatened with closure in 2016 but was rescued by The Prince’s Foundation, the charity founded by HRH The Duke of Rothesay and based in Ayrshire.
