Scotland's NHS on brink of catastrophe, says Scottish Labour report card

Scotland's NHS is on the brink of catastrophe even before the expected strike, Labour has warned.

A report card by Labour on NHS performance shows failures in 12 out of 19 Local Delivery Plan priorities with another likely to fail this year.

Targets on A&E waiting times, child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) waiting times, cancer waiting times, dementia post diagnostic support, detect cancer early, GP access, psychological therapies waiting times, sickness absence, smoking cessation, treatment time guarantees, 12 weeks first outpatient appointments and 18 weeks referral to treatment all failed.

However, there were passes in alcohol brief interventions, clostridium difficile infection rates, drug and alcohol treatment waiting times, early access to antenatal services, IVF waiting times and MRSA infection rates.

Analysis carried out by the Scottish Labour Party shows the extent of failures in Scotland’s NHS.

Last night health spokeswoman Jackie Ballie said: “The SNP has crashed our NHS at the expense of staff and patients.

“Hospitals are overwhelmed, staff are demoralised and patients are being put in danger. Years of SNP missed targets and broken promises are coming home to roost.

“Behind every failed standard are thousands of patients who have been let down, many of whom are desperate for treatment. It simply isn’t good enough.”

The Scottish Government said: “As a result of the pandemic, a number of targets haven’t been met. The first year of our recovery plan shows progress is being made and we are determined to build on this."
