Scotland's NHS Covid vaccine app tech glitches as users still hit by 'error messages'

Users of Scotland's brand new vaccine passport app are still being hit by technical issues a day after it went live.

The Scottish Government launched the NHS Covid Status app on Thursday, which only became available to download at 5.30pm.

Frustrated users have reported being been plagued by glitches since downloading the app, which is needed for the new vaccine passport scheme.

From 5am on Friday, people now need proof of two vaccinations to enter ‘high risk’ venues including nightclubs, large-scale events and football matches.

Hundreds of Scots took to social media to report errors when using the app, with many unable to be matched to their vaccine records.

Verification issues mean that many have not been able to access their jab certificates due to issues with uploading ID, with the app requiring a passport or driving licence.

Others reported 'error messages' when attempting to sign up and create a new account, including “no match found” and “identity verification failed” or 'face verification failed'.

Meanwhile, some users reported being unable to find the NHS Covid Status app in the Google Play store or Apple store.

One person tweeted: "About 20 attempts already and no further forward. I take a photo of my driving licence and the app tells me it's a photocopy."

Another wrote: issues with the Covid app I’ve experienced - ‘oops something went wrong’, ‘we can’t see your face’ (despite the app not activating my camera to take a photo), and I apparently don’t exist!"

A third said: "New Scottish Covid Status App, even though I have the NHS paper vaccine copy & each step of the app has my correct details, the app says ‘No Match Found’."

A Scottish Government spokesperson said: "Some people may be experiencing issues which are likely to be caused by extremely high initial traffic and a large number of users trying to access the app at once.

"We advise people whose data is not found to try again a couple of hours later."

To download the app, people can access the NHS Inform Scotland Covid Status App site here.

The app is also available on the Apple Store.

The Scottish Government launched the app last night ahead of the rule changes that came into force country at 5am today.

NHS Scotland’s Covid Status app launched earlier today ahead of the rule changes coming into force across the country from 5am tomorrow.

All Scots must show proof they have had two doses of vaccine before entering the likes of nightclubs, large scale events, football matches and music concerts.

The new app gives Scots access to a QR code, which they can show to door staff before entering a ‘high risk’ venue.

Scots are asked to provide a picture of their driving licence or passport before going through a facial recognition process to get the relevant details.
